I still think this explanation is too boring, but truth usually is boring as hell. But maybe they're just contrarians gamergaters, who knows. When someone asks: "do you like non-western media?", they think only about everything they chose to be exposed to after picking from their tastes. When someone asks: "do you like western media?", they think only about everything they hate and have had to endure since childhood. They don't like a current trend in shows? They don't have to witness people loving it around them and can, instead, watch older shows without ever having to engage with the trend. They're tired of seeing a characters face? They don't need to see a billboard with them on it. They hate a show so, so much? They don't have to go to school and have people talking about it all the time.

They like action shows with muscular men? They watch those and don't have to go near sentimental dramas, nor see TV commercials for it. When it comes to non-western media, however, they only engage with what they want to. In other words, people get salty because they can't escape it, despite liking a significant part of other western works. People were exposed to western media their whole lives, being bombarded by what they don't like wherever they go: school, friends, family, billboards, TV. My personal theory is that people evaluate the whole of western media (both what they're interested in and what they hate) against the cherry-picked group of non-western media that they prefer. Saying it's because they're normiephobic or anti-SJW is too boring, although probably true, that's why I've come up with my own idea. That isn't dunking on anime since that is hundreds of years of literature and about a century of film making/TV shows. Again it's more just out of recent stuff anime and manga is vastly winning there but honestly taking into context everything there is very little I would put above some of the acclaimed titles from the West.

Plus again lots of big stuff I have yet to read/watch from Western fiction. If I had to actually make a top ten favourite pieces of fiction I ever have seen though I think maybe LOTGH my favourite show at best would be the only anime/manga on it and maybe not even that if I really started considering what I have seen. It's mostly due to how anime/manga continues to come out with new stuff that looks interesting plus my love for animation. Out of all of those along with reading anime is still one of my primary media hobbies.

I hope that Eisenhorn series by Amazon whenever it comes out is actually good. Literature though is still vast for me to explore. Most of the stuff I feel the need to watch is older. TV wise there are one or two titles I will give a go on the rare occasion but again nothing that interesting. That said yeah a lot of what comes out in Hollywood doesn't really interest me these days. I don't expect an amazing adaption but should be fun all the same. Even for animated stuff I am going to be giving some of Powerhouse's stuff a look, there are studios like Cartoon Saloon that do good stuff (and hey they are now working on anime as they are collabing on Belle) and I am still looking forward to that Dune adaption as a fan of the book. I don't it should be obvious in my avatar. Still, anime characters are outwardly far from real people or even mystical characters played by real actors. Of course, there is a certain bias and rejection of content that is different from what is drawn. So what do you think, are anime fans too judgmental of western media? Are they right about everything coming from the west being inferior compared to eastern media? Or are they perhaps suffering from white guilt so bad they can't enjoy anything made by white people?! Or are you telling me Breaking Bad and GoT are supposed to be woke sjw shows?ĭon't get me wrong if someone doesn't want to consume western media it's up to them, but it does seem a bit strange to see people instantly dismiss a show just because it isn't from Japan. Sure the west has more "woke" shows than Japan, but it's not like every show is like that. Why do some anime fans seem to hate all western media? A lot of them always say that it's just all woke bullshit, but I can't say I agree with that.
